There are many things about cities that make them memorable to us; shopping centers, restaurants, museums, parks or simply good friends. The city of North Hollywood has many notable qualities but nothing makes it more memorable to me than their city gateway. With so many EGD studios in Los Angeles, the city of North Hollywood kept true to its kitschy-eclectic nature by hiring a local artist Peter Shire to design their city gateway.
Now I ask you, does having an artist design the gateway make it any less of a gateway? How does this sign compare to other LA gateways or landmarks? Go see it for yourself. The gateway is on Lankershim Blvd., just north of Vineland Ave.
