Name Your Boat

Boat names

You don’t need to be a sailor to appreciate the wide variety of colorful names painted on the sterns of nearly all private boats. They come in a range of flavors from the poetic (Windsong, Pacific Tide) to the aggressively descriptive (Prowler, Island Hopper) to the girlfriend with two names (Peggy Anne, Molly Sue). But my favorite boat name form is the pun, the corny double entendra that probably sounded good over a few beers at the dock, but years later, there it is in faded paint, still trying to get a yuk. The worst (best?) one of all: Sailbad the Sinner, is guaranteed to be seen on the back end of at least one boat bobbing in a slip in any marina.

And the typography! Where do we start? Look for a future post.
