New Civic Wayfinding Programs Help Brand, Unite and Revitalize

PASADENA, CA —January 12, 2011— Hunt Design, a Pasadena-based leading graphic designer for buildings, places and spaces, recently placed the finishing touches on several diverse civic wayfinding programs created throughout Southern California. Spanning signage and wayfinding for Fontana’s Civic Center district, a gateway park for the City of Palm Springs and a directional sign system for the City of Rancho Cucamonga, they all bring an enhanced sense of place to each city by identifying, differentiating and reinforcing the downtown districts and entry through signage and unique sculptural gateways.

“Downtown areas and entry points to America’s cities are in a period of significant change and evolution,” says Jennifer Bressler, principal of Hunt Design. “Leaders are more aware than ever of the value wayfinding projects bring. While many factors contribute to the success of a city and downtown, the role of effective signage and graphics cannot be underestimated.”

Fontana’s new program includes monument signs identifying the Civic Center and civic buildings and pedestrian directional and directory maps to direct visitors within the Civic Center. The dramatic new gateway placed at the entrance to eastern Palm Springs greets visitors and creates a bold welcome. The newly installed system in Rancho Cucamonga helps visitors find civic landmarks and shopping destinations by using the City’s grape logo to reinforce the city’s brand throughout the city.

“The directional signs are a valuable addition to the community and enhance Rancho Cucamonga’s positive public image through the presentation of distinctive guide signs that make the City even more user friendly to visitors, residents and local employees,” said Linda Daniels, Deputy City Manager of the City of Rancho Cucamonga.
