Making A Big Bang in Mexico…

Electrópolis explores the mysterious world of electricity

April 9, 2007 —Walking into the Museo Technologico Comision Federal de Electricidad (MUTEC) visitors cannot help but feel a buzz emanating from everywhere. Electrópolis is the source. A new permanent exhibit created by Pasadena-based Hunt Design, a leading graphic designer for buildings, spaces and places, that tells the story of electricity…from the Big Bang to future sources of power.

“Electricity might once have been considered a rather difficult subject matter. Such is not the case with Electrópolis,” says Jennifer Bressler, principal and project director at Hunt Design. “Electrópolis proves the power and poignancy of creative exhibition design.”

Starting with the Big Bang, visitors explore the seven different galleries of Electrópolis through big, bold and energetic supergraphics, hands-on interactive displays, video presentations and artifacts. Electrifying surprises greet them at every turn as they experience the Discovery Room: telling the stories of Benjamin Franklin, Einstein, Volta, etc.; the Discovery Timeline; Magnetic Forces: how electricity works; Generation/Transmission: how power is generated and sent to your house; and finally, The Future: new ways of generating electricity.

“Graphics are truly the ‘hook’ for this exhibit,” added Wayne Hunt, founding principal of Hunt Design. “Complicated subject matter is literally transformed into easy-to-understand, exciting displays that teach and enlighten.”

Electrópolis is a 6,500 sq, ft. permanent multi-media exhibit at the Federal Commission of Technological Electricity Museum (MUTEC) or Museo Technologico Comisión Federal de Electricidad, in Mexico City, Mexico. Produced and commissioned by Stacy King LLC, the show is presented for an audience of ages 8 and up.
