Day at the Museum

I finally got a chance to visit the California Academy of Sciences this past Labor Day weekend. Having worked on a handful of museum projects and seeing the behind the scenes work that’s involved in putting together an exhibit, I think I’ve lost the ability to just enjoy going to the museum. I’m too busy looking to see what typefaces were used and what kind of printing and lighting techniques were incorporated.

As soon as I walked in the museum I felt like a little kid visiting the science museum for the first time. Standing inside the 3 story rainforest with birds and butterflies flying around me and cases of exotic reptiles surrounding me, I was transported to another world. The museum has done such an incredible job of immersing the visitor into the environment that you forget about the crowd and focus on the immersive experience you’re having.

The Cal Academy is open late for grown ups one day a week for “Night Life” with drinks and live music which I’m planning on checking out.
