Names Wayne Hunt Its 2004 Fellow

Pasadena, CA— June 18, 2004—The Society for Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD), an international non-profit educational organization providing resources for design specialists in the field of environmental graphic design, architecture, and landscape, interior, and industrial design, recently honored Wayne Hunt, a leading graphic designer for buildings, spaces and places, by bestowing upon Hunt the honor of SEGD Fellow for 2004. The SEGD Board presents the annual award to distinguished individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the SEGD and who have achieved excellence in the profession.

“Being recognized by my peers with such an award is an honor,” said Wayne Hunt, founding principal of Hunt Design Associates. “This is truly the highlight of a rewarding and fulfilling career.”

Recognizing his contributions to SEGD and the field of environmental graphic design, Mr. Hunt was given the 2004 Fellow Award at the SEGD’s annual conference, The Power of the Individual, which took place June 2-5, 2004 in Philadelphia, PA. Past recipients of the SEGD Fellow honor include such noted industry leaders as Robert Venturi & Denise Scott Brown, Ivan Chermayeff and Tom Geismar, Massimo Vignelli, Deborah Sussman and John Follis.

“Wayne Hunt epitomizes both the outstanding designer and design professional. He has helped keep thousands of people from getting lost, and making their navigation easier and more fun in the process,” adds Leslie Gallery Dilworth, FAIA SEGD executive director. “By investing considerable time in building the SEGD, his teaching, and his books, he is building future generations of designers.”

Wayne Hunt is a leader in the environmental graphic design industry. He founded Hunt Design Associates, a design firm specializing in identity, signage and environmental graphic design programs, in 1977. The 14-person Hunt Design Associates has produced signage and wayfinding strategies for some of the world’s most recognizable cities, theme parks, retail and hospitality projects, including the Paris-Las Vegas Casino Resort, The Mall of America, Walt Disney World, Pleasure Island, MGM Studios Tour, MCA Universal's Porto Europa, Landmark's Puroland, Samsung and the cities of Los Angeles, Sacramento, Wichita, Oxnard, Pasadena many others. Hunt is on the faculty of Art Center College of Design, has been a guest lecturer at the USC School of Architecture and UCLA, and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and events around the country. Hunt recently served as the President of the Society for Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD), is on the board of American Institute of Graphic Arts/AIGA, is the recipient of numerous national and international honorary awards and has written several articles and three books on the subject of graphic design’s role in architectural environments.
